"What happened?" He asked, the world slowly coming back to him.
"You fainted," her voice came, as sweet as he had remembered. "I picked you up and put you on the couch, you've been out for awhile. Here, drink this."
The hot tea numbed his lips slightly. He was positive he was dreaming.
"This can't be real. You died, I was there, Bullseye killed you."
"Matt, this is real, I'm not dead, and as for being killed, I have no idea what you're talking about. I've been in Los Angeles, doing my radio show, remember, Angel in the Morning. I missed you so much," she ran her hand across the man's face. "Where's Foggy?" She asked, smiling, "I want to surprise him."
Matt's slight smile began to slope downward. "Karen, I'm not sure how to tell you this..........Foggy died."
"Oh.... oh my god Matt, what happened?"
"Bullseye, Kingpin."
She sat down next to him on the couch, placing her hand over his. "I'm so sorry Matt, I didn't know."
"That's the thing Karen, I thought Bullseye had killed you too," Matt squeezed her hand. "It must have been another one of Mysterio's tricks," he muttered under his breath.
"What?"
"I'm sorry, it's complicated, but the important thing is you're back. God, I missed you so much Karen."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"No, later, I promise, right now, I just want to hold you." A tear rolled down his cheek as he looked at her face. He would give anything to see it.

"How is it going?" The Kingpin asked.
"Perfect, just as you planned," answered the voice on the other end of the phone.
"Excellent, keep me informed."
"About the pay-"
"You'll be paid when the job is done, goodbye."

"Assistant district attorney! Matt, that's wonderful," Karen exclaimed.
"Yeah, looks like all of that hard work in law school is finally paying off," he smiled. "I hope I never wake up from this dream, Karen. I love you."
"Dream, does this feel like a dream?" She asked, placing her lips over his. They were as soft as he'd remembered.
"More like a fantasy," he laughed.
She stood up, grabbing his hand and pulling him with her. "Follow me, Mr. Murdock, I believe we have some making up to do."
As they headed for his bedroom, Matt heard the wailing sound of police sirens. He cocked his head toward the window.
"What is it?" She asked.
"Trouble, I have to check it out."
"Matt....dammit, go on, I'll be here when you get back."
He darted in the bedroom, quickly changing into his Daredevil uniform.

The night air was cold on his face. It's been awhile, he thought. Below him were a few cop cars, they had a house surrounded. He could hear the slow tick of their lights as they flashed; smell the sweat of the officers as it rolled down their foreheads, the trace of old gunpowder on their handguns, the pounding of their heartbeats. Inside the house he could hear the cries of at least two children and one woman, then suddenly he heard a man screaming.
It was a two-story house, and his radar senses told him they were on the bottom. Quickly and silently, Matt snuck into one of the top windows, soon enough he found his way downstairs. The four heartbeats were coming from what smelled like the kitchen. As Matt crept down the stairs he could hear the man's footsteps pacing along the floor, his voice a constant scream.
When he reached the bottom floor, Matt hugged the wall, sneaking to a nearby doorway. On the other side he heard the man screaming still. Patiently he waited for him to cross the doorway, and when he did Daredevil tackled him to the ground, pulling the gun out of his hand hastily.

Outside, the police diligently stood watch on the house, each one praying for a good outcome. A disgruntled husband had taken his wife and children hostage when he was presented divorce papers. It was a situation most of the officers had seen before, and a few of them had seen it go horribly wrong. Suddenly a voice came from inside.
"I-I'm coming out, d-d-don't shoot!"

Inside, Matt had picked the man up off the floor, twisting his arm behind his back until he screamed. "Tell them you're coming out," he demanded.
The man did as he was told as Matt opened the door with his free hand. Without warning, Daredevil threw the man onto the ground in front of his house. The police caught a brief glimpse of Matt darting back into the hose before they rushed the man on the ground.
Once outside again, Daredevil rushed from the scene. The sun was beginning to peak it's rays over the skyline, and right now Matt could think of nothing better than to spend time with Karen. Unfortunately he had to be at the office soon to meet with his new staff.
Arriving back at his apartment, he found Karen waiting patiently in the kitchen. She had made a small breakfast for them. A quick change of clothes and Matt was Daredevil no longer. She smiled and kissed him lightly on the cheek when he walked in the room.
"I trust everything turned out okay?" She asked.
"Sure did," he answered. "Just a domestic disturbance, but it could've been worse. I'll never understand it Karen. How can two people go from wanting to spend the rest of their lives together to wanting to kill each other? It amazes me."
"Well, man-o-mine, I'm don't know about all that, but I do know that a fed man is a happy one, so eat some breakfast."
"Can't, I have to be at the office soon, I don't want to be late, it'll leave a bad impression."
Karen sighed, looking deeply into the blank eyes of her lover.
"Don't give me that look," he smiled.
"Why Mr. Murdock, whatevah are you talkin' about," she responded in her best Scarlett O'Hara impression.
"I've got to go," he said, walking towards the door. As he walked out, he turned back towards Karen as if he'd forgotten something. "I love you," he said, shutting the door.
Karen walked towards the window and watched as he walked down the sidewalk. After he'd gone from her sight she walked back to the kitchen to have herself some breakfast.

The meeting went as well as could be expected. After introducing himself and promising that he would try his best to live up to former Assistant D.A. Jacob Rubenson. After the introductions they discussed the Kingpin case. Matt knew he couldn't be directly involved due to his relationship to Foggy, but he would be overseeing the prosecution to make sure everything was done by the book. He told them that he wanted Fisk as much as anyone, and swore he would do nothing to jeopardize the trial.
It was noon by the time he finally got out of the building. His stomach growled and at that moment he wished he had eaten some of Karen's breakfast. The sunlight warmed his body as he extended his cane ahead of him. He could smell a hot dog vendor about a block away, and right now he knew that a New York hot dog would hit the spot nicely.
"Afternoon," the vendor said as Matt approached. "What can I get for you today?"
"I'll have two dogs," Matt responded.
"Say, aren't you that guy that was on the news yesterday?"
"Probably," he smiled. "Matt Murdock, I'm the new Assistant D.A."
"Yeah, was a shame what happened to Rubenson. He was a nice enough fella, always polite, used to come get a bite out here a couple times a week. A real shame."
"Well, we're going to get the guy that did it. I know it doesn't bring him back, but we will see justice done." Matt reached for his wallet.
"No charge, you want any condiments?"
"No thanks, just the hot dogs. Are you sure?"
"Yup, from one New Yorker to another, here's hoping you nail that son of a bitch to the wall when you get him," the vendor responded, placing the food in a bag.
"We will," Matt promised, taking the bag.
Another man approached the stand as Matt walked away. Matt could smell the cologne he was wearing, it was almost as if he'd bathed in it. He heard the man ask for three hot dogs with everything and the voice set off bells in Matt's brain. It sounded just like Foggy. Matt shook his head to clear it and heard the man say thanks, this time it was obviously not Foggy.
"Get it together Murdock," he said to himself as he walked back.

Karen was on the telephone when she heard Matt's key hit the lock. She looked at her watch as she said goodbye. It was almost five, he must have left the office early, she thought to herself.
Matt entered the apartment wearing a giant smile on his face. It seemed like all he had done all day was smile, so much in fact his cheeks were aching.
"Good day at the office?" She asked.
"Well, it was good enough, the walk home was wonderful."
"Why's that?" She questioned, walking towards him.
"No real reason. I just overheard a couple talking. It seems they had been recently engaged and the woman didn't like the ring he had proposed with, and was demanding he get her the one she wanted. It struck me as hilarious, the fact that someone could put a price tag on love. I thought to myself, Karen was never like that. Through good and bad, Karen never once did that. You never demanded more of me than you got, you just accepted what I had to offer."
Karen walked behind him, slipping her arms around his waist, squeezing him ever so slightly.
"We've been through good, bad, and worse together Karen, and I never stopped loving you. I thought you dead for weeks on end, but I still loved you, and I know you loved me. I've always known it, no matter what you've done, I know you loved me still. I just want you to know, no matter what, I will always love you."
"Oh, Matt, what brought this-" she began. Before she could finish Matt dropped down to one knee, pulling a small box out of his left pants pocket. He slowly opened it, and inside was the most beautiful ring Karen had ever seen.
"Karen Page, will you do me the honor of becoming my bride?"
"You fainted," her voice came, as sweet as he had remembered. "I picked you up and put you on the couch, you've been out for awhile. Here, drink this."
The hot tea numbed his lips slightly. He was positive he was dreaming.
